Redundant Communication

27 April 2008, Sunday

I’d bought a new computer recently, but since I didn’t want to spend excessively, I stuck with my very old monitor. As it turned out, it then proceeded to break down on me last week; well, actually just the monitor speakers, but this was a crucial enough impediment to my YouTube-watching activities.

I mentioned to my dad (who is my official shopper of all things tech-related) the aforementioned situation (I didn’t mention YouTube though), and told him to take his time to help me find a new monitor that worked.

Of course, being dad, he went to look for it the very next day, and texted me that afternoon while I was at work, asking if I wanted a 19-inch screen, or a 22-inch one. I told him to go with the 19-inch, or whichever was cheaper (just in case for some unimaginable reason the 22-inch one was).

When I came home, I found a spanking new 22-inch monitor in place of my old broken one, with all the desktop icons blown up (obviously to maximise usage of the large screen, never mind that it was horrifically pixelated) and the brightness on full (obviously to maximise… the brightness). Dad rambled on cheerily about what a great buy it was, and listed out all its features, and did he mentioned: it was huge?

Anyway, I spent the next 10 minutes tweaking it back to normality, and I was suddenly overcome with a feeling of dread; I realised that of all the state-of-the-art technology this new screen had, it had…

… no speakers.

I love you, dad. :)

  1. LOL!!! you did not tell your dad the main objective for replacing the monitor!?! can buy a set of speakers instead?

  2. I did, I did! Sigh. Miraculously my brother came home with a set of used speakers that his friend gave him, so now I have audio, yay! :)
